“The greatest glory in living lies not in never failing, but rising every time we fall”

-Ralf Waldo Emerson
A life well lived

The quote above is one that I highly cherish. None of us will get through this life without falling, but it’s not only getting up, but how we get up that defines us.

I come from a lower middle class family with parents that were almost 20 years apart in age. I will bring things up from my childhood of course when they come up, but i do my best to not live in the past. I do have MDD, so it’s a daily challenge to keep my body and mind moving in the forward, not in the past, but I choose to accept that challenge every day I wake up. I have also learned to not expect others to be able to move in the same way or direction that I do, their life is theirs, their challenges their own. I do my best to hold myself to that same standard of not comparing myself to someone else. It is natural for us to try to do so, but its not fair to me or anyone else to hold everyone to the same standards because we don’t all live the same life, and we aren’t all on the same path through life. Now that i have this little soap box moment out of the way, I’’ formally introduce myself and my pups.

My name is Yolanda Mendez, my current pack consists of 4 fur babies, Sayan (12 years old), Zima (8 years old), Yuka (7 years old), and Cara (3 years old). I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, grew up a Tom Boy, but with the flair for suprise. Once in a while, I’d go to school in dress just to put people in an awe state. I don’t like people making assumptions of me because I’ve lived with fighting assumptions and stereotypes my entire life, that I tend to do things from time to time to make people think twice about what they think they know. I did this from an early age where I didn’t even understand that’s what I was even doing.

I was born into a Hispanic family, my father born in SA, most of the rest of his siblings born in Mexico, and my mother, born in a small town outside SA with her grandmother from Mexico, and her great grandmother from Germany. So to say lightly, I come from a family of travelers, it’s just in my blood. I took that desire from traveling when I decided to join the U.S. Navy in 1998. I wanted to see the world, and I did get to do just that. I got out of that SA bubble and explored many different places, and have met so many different people, and experienced so many different cultures than I ever would have had the chance to otherwise. With all the negative effects of my service still lingering around me, the positives are still there as well. I’ll go into detail about each husky story in separate threads where you can feel free to comment if you wish, as this blog develops. I’ll not only share the stories of my current pack, but also the members of my pack who are no longer with me, either through being fosters or through life taking them from me.Each of their stories have impacts on mine, as other pet caretakers can relate. I entire you to sit back and enjoy the adventures my current pack and I will take, and past adventures and lessons we have learned along the way, my current and past pack. I wish you all the peace, blessings, and happiness life can offer you.
